With temperatures pushing close to 40°C across much of the UK, it's probably fair to say that attending interviews isn't at the top of most people's wish lists right now.

This comes against a backdrop of increasing uncertainty. The latest RIBA Future Trends Survey shows confidence weakening for a third consecutive month, with the RIBA Workload Index falling to -9 and practices reporting workloads around 9% lower than a year ago. Concerns around inflation, public finances, interest rates and the wider economic outlook continue to weigh on confidence, although London has returned to positive territory and larger practices remain relatively optimistic.
One trend we're noticing is an increase in contract opportunities. Whether this is a response to wider economic caution, political uncertainty ahead of a potential change of Prime Minister and Chancellor, or simply firms seeking greater flexibility, many employers appear reluctant to make long-term commitments while still needing projects delivered.
